FIRST THINGS FIRST
Heya! I'm so stoked that you're on this page because it means that you and I are now in communication about this epic, quiet, giant, life-changing adventure called marriage! I'm so about it! I know people go back and forth about weddings--whether to have one, if it's worth all the time and energy (and money!) to make it happen, and if they should just skip it all and book a really nice vacation instead. I just want to say: not many things can move hearts like wedding days do. They're up there with the birth-of-a-first-born, the summit-of-Everest, the discovery of a new country....you get the point! My passion is not only in taking photos on the day-of, but in helping you plan for the day/weekend well. A well-planned celebration (big or small) can make space for life-long memories to be made, for relationships between families to be strengthened, and for your marriage to be given an incredible and memorable start. My style of shooting is organic, happy, positive, easy-going. I didn't get into this because I dreamed of perfectly pressed napkins or utterly well-behaved families...nope! I started shooting weddings because of the opposite, actually. I'm in love with the weird, honest, messy ways that love brings people together! I want to be more than just a beautiful photo-maker to you: I want to develop a friendship where you can let me into the unexpected emotion and hilarious details of your story. For portraits, we won't be going for stiff poses or things that aren't you, but instead, we'll find good light where you can love on each other and play. I'll give you direction to be sure, but you've got the most powerful thing between you already--a real liking for one another! I'll be catching the massive smile on your dad's face as he walks you in, the muddy hem of your dress, the moment when the flower girls have stripped down to their undies to play in the fountain, your grandpas getting wild on the dance floor, and the way you look in the moments just after marriage is pronounced. Those are the moments in my wedding dreams!

WHO AM I? THANKS FOR ASKING!

Well, there just isn't a substitute for getting to know someone in person, but here are a few of the big and little things to get us started! I grew up in Spokane, WA with chickens, goats, horses and a pet pig and then left to go to college in Walla Walla, WA--the town so nice they named it twice. I spent a year teaching English in the Czech Republic, and another year living in a mud hut in Chad, Africa. They say that every stage adds value to where you'll be in the future and for me and my winding path, I see the pure truth in that. I finished my formal education (let's be real, most of life's education happens...well, in life itself) by getting a masters in creative non-fiction writing in Los Angeles. I worked in writing for a couple years and then scurried home to marry this amazing man whom I'd known since childhood and who gave me a bouquet of asparagus instead of flowers and then cooked it for me for dinner. He's the perfect kind of romancer for me! We had a three month engagement (woah--talk about whirlwind wedding planning!) and then got married on my parent's property overlooking Spokane where all of our biggest supporters and loved ones sat on hay bales in the shape of a "U". There were giant bunnies carried down the aisle by tiny children and lots of laughter the whole night. We felt so loved and honored to have such a beautiful set of witnesses. Since that time, we've lived in a few locations. We love trying new stuff. Once we planted a wheat field in our tiny front yard and harvested it all by hand. Our neighbors thought we were crazy, but we're just your regular eastern Washington farmers! We enjoy music: I play the harp and Tommy plays lots of instruments including the ukulele. And we love to create all kinds of things together! We even created a little human gal named Ruby who is both two and incredible! I'm a stay at-home-mom who doesn't always stay at home (we travel for a good chunk of work!) and Ruby has been on many more flights than she can count (she can count to six right now)...even one to Iceland! My love for writing goes hand in hand with what I love about weddings because the stuff that makes a good written story is the exact same stuff that makes a good photo--honesty, emotion, and the unveiling of quirky characters as they experience big change! Doesn't that sound like love? I've been shooting weddings for 4 years. I photographed over two dozen last year and are aiming for that this year too. It just doesn't get old and every wedding is different. We've recently moved to Spokane and we're so happy to be here. We love this city and all the people we're meeting. Oh, and we're expecting another babe in November! It's a boy this time--and we're thinking about naming Indiana Jack...Indie for short! I'm of the opinion that people are more important than perfection and that going the extra mile is actually just the number of miles we should all go for each other in the first place. I'd love to know all the nitty gritty about you, too. So go head and read on, take in all the info, but then, let's get together and chat! It's best that way.

4. ADD ON’S

Night-Before Coverage - $800

I remember how humbling it was to have all my favorite people coming into town for my wedding and yet feeling like the time we'd have together was too short to soak all of them in. Night-Before Coverage is a great add-on if you'd like to have something fun planned for your guest the evening before and you want those memories to be captured. Maybe it's a rehearsal BBQ dinner or an evening cannon-balling off the docks at the lake or a sunset hike. One of the reasons I LOVE this add-on is that it gives me a chance to know your family and friends before your wedding day and let's them get comfortable having me there.  It's also a chance to snag some gorgeous light that evening and take a few shots of all the looks and feelings between you and your love on your last night of singleness.

Day After Coverage - $800

Basically, this is an add-on for someone who doesn't want to take up time away from their guests on their wedding day, but who really want to traipse off to an epic locations outside of your venue for photos. The plan would go something like this: the evening after your wedding, you'd jump into your wedding clothes again (who says you'll only wear the dress once!) and we'd head off to a location of your choice where we can find perfect light and take really unique photos without the wedding day time crunch. I just really love this add-on because of the way it changes the feel of a wedding day. Your celebration becomes even more about the moments just unfolding, and less about making sure we got all the right photos.

Second Shooter - $600

I highly recommend a second shooter for weddings of 150+ guests. Not only will you have more images with more angles and perspectives, but we can document two things happening simultaneously--one of us with the bride, one with the groom for example. If you've got a big wedding planned, seriously consider this add-on because it's a small price for the value it adds.

DRIVING

Traveling by car is calculated at $1/mile traveled for anything that is beyond 40 miles roundtrip from my homebase.

So if you're location is 100 miles away one way, and 200 miles round trip, then 40 of those miles are included and you can calculate your travel costs for the 120 remaining miles by using the $1/mile measure which comes out to $120.

*If I'll be driving further than three hours, one night stay may be required.

8. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How will we receive our images? And in what timeframe?

Once I get your photos home after the wedding, I back them up (for a third time) and send you a few previews of the day. Then, over the next few weeks I go through and pull the very best 400+ images and edit those individually. Once I'm done, I'll upload them into an online gallery where you can download images as many times as you want over the next year. You can share the link with friends and family as well so they can download images at their convenience.

We're awkward in front of the camera--is that okay?

100% A-okay! I am a sympathetic photographer because every time Tommy turns the camera on me, I'm like, "Hey! You stop that!" Haha. No, but really, it's a part of my job I love--helping to put you at ease and make sure you're comfortable. Some of the clients who tell me they're the most awkward end up having the most beautiful genuine photos. So don't. You. Fear.

Can we have the raw images?

No--and I'm sorry I'm not sorry! This is one of the most valuable things you're hiring me to do: to select the best photos and make them even better. Another perspective I like to share with clients is: imagine an artist giving out all his unfinished work and people hanging it around their houses half-done...the artist wouldn't feel proud. I want each image I deliver to be the best it can be. I'll deliver plenty of photos to you--don't you worry.

How do payment schedules work?

A 30% non-refundable downpayment gets you on my schedule! The rest can be paid in the months leading up to the wedding/shoot. I ask for the final payment one month before the wedding. This ensures you won't be stressing about any money things at the end.

What should we wear for engagement photos?

Great question! The short version of my advice is to take into consideration the surroundings of our shoot. If we'll be traipsing up a mountain, I'd ditch the heels and put on your cute hiking boots. If we're going to be rooftop lounging, well, get as glammed up as you want! Got more questions, let's chat!

What if we need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens. I really do get it! The non-refundable portion of the payment is to ensure that when I reserve a date for you and turn away other clients, that I'll my income won't suffer. But if you need to reschedule, you bet I will work to reschedule with you! If I have your new wedding date available, I'll happily transfer the downpayment back to you and we'll be set. If I don't have your new date available, I'll hang onto the downpayment but try to book another client in the time left. If I'm able to rebook your date, you bet I'll be sending that downpayment right back to you.

What happens if you can’t make it to our wedding?

Unless I'm dying or in grave danger of dying, I will be at your wedding! But should something dire happen, I will arrange for another skilled photographer to shoot your wedding and then give you the option of having me edit them so you still have the style and brand you were envisioning.

Can we meet before our wedding?

Please, yes! I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to feel comfortable and connected with your photographer. Meeting ahead of time (through FaceTime at the very least!) is a an amazing start to having amazing pictures. Let's grab ice cream, coffee, go walk your dog, or meet up for a meal. Super important! <3

HOW ABOUT ALL THAT?

You've made it through the whole she-bang! It's no small thing to hire a photographer and I'm sure you've got a million questions running through your head. I'd love to jump on a FaceTime call with you and feel out our connection and hear more about your dreams for your wedding celebration!
