We hung our heads over scrapbooks,
over a table set with laughing,
over pictures of ourselves
in the middle of becoming.

We said, "Remember that day?"
and "Oh, look at us then!" and
"Ah, how you loved those white Converse kicks!"

We laughed like wild:
it was our solemn and serious vow
to love and to cherish
what is always still becoming.
