COVID-19 Porch and Window Portraits

This set of images was a highlight in the 2020 year of shooting! Inspired by the many amazing porch portraits others were creating, I wanted to try my hand at these little vignettes too! When the first restrictions were put in place to reduce the spread of Covid-19, I remember being so grateful that our backyard was mid-renovation and full of mud for the kids to play in! Photographers and all small businesses spent those early days navigating what our jobs would look like, if we’d have jobs…it was a very uncertain time. Traveling around and snapping pictures of people’s quarantine routines was a way to create art out of the restrictions we’d all be living with. And something feels so time-capsule-esque about these little sets! With the newest COVID-19 measures announced yesterday, I know many businesses and families will be hit hard again. We’ve been there. I feel for you. We may not have a backyard full of mud anymore, but we will have a backyard of snow soon! Planning to build a kingdom of tunnels and castles and slides for the kids when it really starts to fall. Definitely need to go restock our hot chocolate supply! Sending lots of love out with this post. Thank you to everyone who invited me to your window, to your porch! If you are interested in a through-the-windows session this winter, please reach out! XO, Em
